Runoi’s Kantele Camp Live Streams June 16-20, 2021

The events and lessons of the Runoi’s Kantele Camp can be followed online on the camp’s youtube-channel.  The events are free and the lessons are available via paid links. Live streaming by Jarmo Romppanen from Videotuotanto Vauhtiluiska Oy.

Some events may be published retrospectively. The details of each stream will be informed closer to the event.

Wed, June 16, from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Kantele lessons /Arja Kastinen.                                                                                               (In Finnish and in English.) 5-string kanteles in E-minor, 10- and 11-string kanteles in D-major.

The events

The evening of Simana Sissonen, June 16, at 7 p.m. In Finnish only. Raimo Sissonen tells about the old home place of Simana Sissonen (1786–1848) in Mekrijärvi. Liisa Matveinen sings Simana’s runosong.

Concert at the Sissola, June 17, at 7 p.m. Arja Kastinen will play the museum kantele replicas. Duo Liisa Matveinen & Tellu Turkka will sing runosongs from Iro Sissotar and Mateli Kuivalatar. (Photo: Roosa Juvonen) [This concert is not publicly available any more due to the copyright regulations.]

The evening of Mateli Kuivalatar (1771–1846), June 18, at 7 and about at 8 p.m. In Finnish only. The event is in two parts. At first Liisa Matveinen will introduce the museum buildings of Mateli at the Rune Singer’s Village and sing some songs from Mateli. This part may be recorded and published retrospectively. The evening continues about at 8 p.m. by the fire, where Tenka Issakainen talks about spells and traditional folk healing – Mateli Kuivalatar was known as a powerful healer.

The final concert, June 20, at 2 p.m. at the Runonlaulajan pirtti. The participants of the course will perform. There will be runosongs from Simana Sissonen and Mateli Kuivalatar, and also some new music made by the participants during the course.
